Morning Service – The Powerful Gospel
The Powerful Gospel Romans 1:8-16 The world had heard of their faith (1:8) Paul prayed for them (1:9-10) John 16:33 "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." Paul desired to come and see them (11-13) 1) Mutual Encouragement 2) A spiritual harvest of souls This is not about what we can do for God, but what God can do through us! Three basic convictions/motivations (14-16) 1) He felt a sense of obligation to his world (14) A Spiritual Philanthropist Titus 3:3-6 At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior 2) He was eager / ready to share with others (15) 3) He was not ashamed of the gospel of Christ (16) “the GOOD NEWS” Matthew 7:24-27 (page 972) Wise & Foolish man Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. Isaiah 40:8-9 The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever. You who bring good news to Zion, go up on a high mountain. You who bring good news to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with a shout, lift it up, do not be afraid; say to the towns of Judah, “Here is your God!” John 20:21 …“Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”

    Morning Service – Labor Day
    Series: Labor Day
Labor (98 Xs) Jeremiah 22:23 You who live in 'Lebanon,' who are nestled in cedar buildings, how you will groan when pangs come upon you, pain like that of a woman in labor! 1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. Work (382 Xs) Genesis 2:2-3 Genesis 2:5-7 God designed people to WORK! Genesis 2:15-17 Genesis 3:17-19 Exodus 1:14 They made their lives bitter with harsh labor in brick and mortar and with all kinds of work in the fields; in all their harsh labor the Egyptians worked them ruthlessly. Genesis 4:11-12 Life without work results in destructive behavior 2 Thessalonians 3:6-15 (page 1191) "The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat." Ephesians 4:28 Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need. 2 Corinthians 9:8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Philippians 2:14-16 Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain.

Am I going to have any more sons, who could become your husbands? (20-21) “Don't call me Naomi,” (pleasant) she told them. “Call me Mara, (bitter) because the Almighty has made my life very bitter. I went away full, but the LORD has brought me back empty. Why call me Naomi? The LORD has afflicted me; the Almighty has brought misfortune upon me.” Matthew 6:28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Matthew 7:3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? Matthew 8:26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. Matthew 9:4 Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts? Matthew 14:31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” Matthew 15:3 Jesus replied, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? Matthew 26:6-13 “Why this waste?” “Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me. ..wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.” *Good priorities bring lasting results! Matthew 27:46 About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”). Mark 5:38-40 39 He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.” Mark 10:18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good–except God alone. Mark 12:14-17 15 Should we pay or shouldn't we?” But Jesus knew their hypocrisy. “Why are you trying to trap me?” he asked. “Bring me a denarius and let me look at it.” Luke 6:46 “Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say? Luke 12:25-26 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest? Psalm 42:5 Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. Luke 22:46 “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.” Luke 24:5-6 In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee Luke 24:36-39 (38) He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? John 8:46 Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me? John 10:36b …Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, 'I am God's Son'? Acts 1:11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” Acts 3:12 When Peter saw this, he said to them: “Fellow Israelites, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?

WHY 562 Xs Genesis 4:6-7 Then the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.” 1) An admission of wrong doing 2) A correction of behavior 3) Doing it right in the future Why a blood sacrifice? Hebrews 9:22 …without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Acts 17:30 In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. Romans 3:25a God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood–to be received by faith. Give ADVICE Jethro Exodus 18:9-12 (page 74) Exodus 18:13-24 Ephesians 4:11-13 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. QUESTIONING GOD Manna Num. 11:6-15 (page 144) yuck! Joshua 7 (pg 218) Why does disaster come when all seems to be going so well? 1) Admit our wrong doing 2) Correct our behavior 3) Do what is right
