Morning Service – To Prepare a Place
I. Why did Jesus Come? Luke 19:10 “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. Matthew 5:17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. Matthew 10:34-39 (page: 975) John 6:38-40 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.” II. Today Jesus is preparing a place for us in His neighborhood FOCUS ON ETERNITY (HEAVEN) NOT THIS WORLD! III. Today Jesus is preparing us for Heaven A. Salvation (6) B. Personal relationship with God through his son Jesus (8-9) C. Believers demonstrate the power of God to their world by faith (12) D. Believers are experiencing the power of prayer (13-14) 1 John 5:13-15 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us–whatever we ask–we know that we have what we asked of him.

    Numbers 11:9-34 Israel & the Quail 1) A gratitude attitude 2) Wants and Needs 3) Trusting God for my needs I. Being thankful for what we have Psalm 9:1 I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds. 1 Thess. 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 5:20 … always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Daniel 6:10 Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before. Colossians 4:2 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. II. Understand the difference between wants and needs Philippians 4:12-13 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength. III. Trust God to meet our needs Philippians 4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. 2 Corinthians 9:11-12 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord's people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Luke 12:48b From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.

    Hebrews 9:27-28a Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; 1 John 1:5-7 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. “yoked together with Christ” Mt. 11:29 Indications of this Dark World I. Judge by human standards (13-18) “God & I are in the majority! He is all I need.” II. Think they can know God without knowing Jesus Christ (19) (14:6) III. Do not understand/appreciate the truth of God's word (21-24, 27) Only the Holy Spirit can break through a hardened heart and bring salvation to a hopeless sinner. IV. They do not understand their bondage to sin (31-47) *True Freedom comes only through Christ! 1. In bondage to sin 2. Servant of the devil 3. Destined for hell

    Sharpening Your Ax Preparation is critical to success! Two Directions Going In Coming Out PRAYER! GOD'S WORD! Worship! John 10:9 (AMP) I am the Door; anyone who enters in through Me will be saved (will live). He will come in and he will go out [freely], and will find pasture. Three primary feasts PASSOVER, PENTECOST, TABERNACLES Passover, the departure out of Egypt Pentecost, the law given at Sinai Tabernacles, wilderness experience Exodus 23:17 “Three times a year all the men are to appear before the Sovereign LORD. Deuteronomy 32:3-4 I will proclaim the name of the LORD. Oh, praise the greatness of our God! He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he. (18) You deserted the Rock, who fathered you; you forgot the God who gave you birth. (21a) They made me jealous by what is no god and angered me with their worthless idols. (35) It is mine to avenge; I will repay. In due time their foot will slip; their day of disaster is near and their doom rushes upon them.” (39) “See now that I myself am he! There is no god besides me. I put to death and I bring to life, I have wounded and I will heal, and no one can deliver out of my hand. (40-41) I lift my hand to heaven and solemnly swear: As surely as I live forever, when I sharpen my flashing sword and my hand grasps it in judgment, I will take vengeance on my adversaries and repay those who hate me…” Either you sharpen your sword (word of God) or God will sharpen His. Are you keeping your axe (sword) sharp in the presence of the Lord? Prayer (approaching God) Bible study (God speaking to us) Christian music (Praise & worship) Fellowship (encouraging us & others) Witnessing (leading others to Christ) Great athletes are not made by the desire to win, but by the desire to prepare to win.

    Growing Old AGE RELATED OBSERVATIONS CHALLENGES I. Physical Changes (1:1-4) 2 Samuel 5:4 David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned forty years. II. Rebellious Child Adonijah David's 4th son Three strikes against him (6) 1) Undisciplined by his father 2) Handsome 3) Next in line to be King Discipline your children carefully while they are young, so that they will grow into self-disciplined adults. Proverbs 22:15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far away. Proverbs 29:15 A rod and a reprimand impart wisdom, but a child left undisciplined disgraces its mother. Proverbs 29:17 Discipline your children, and they will give you peace; they will bring you the delights you desire. Sealing an action with religious ceremony does not make it God's will. III. Who will take your place as the head of the family? Ecclesiastes 2:18-19 I hated all the things I had toiled for under the sun, because I must leave them to the one who comes after me. And who knows whether that person will be wise or foolish? Yet they will have control over all the fruit of my toil into which I have poured my effort and skill under the sun. This too is meaningless. IV. Godly children V. Finish well 1 Chronicles 28-29 (pg. 426) What are we passing on to our children - our legacy? Getting old(er) is not the end, it's a time of great opportunity. Let us “end well”.

    The Cost of Obedience 2 Samuel 24 & 1Chron. 21 Psalm 20:7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. Some of our greatest challenges / temptations come right on the heels of our greatest victories. 5 parts / words I. PRIDE (1-8) Proverbs 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Luke 12 “bigger barns” thinking! Luke 12:19-21 And I'll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.” “But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?' “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.” II. OPTIONS (9-15) **Our actions effect others.** PLAGUE 70,000 men died III. RESPONSIBILITY (16-17) AWE! **We were designed by God to live in AWE of God, and when we fail to do so God brings things into our lives to remind us. IV. OBEDIENCE (18-24) Araunah *(24) “full price” V. WORSHIP (25-22:1) Genesis 22:2 Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love–Isaac–and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.” 2 Chronicles 3:1 Then Solomon began to build the temple of the LORD in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the LORD had appeared to his father David. It was on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite, the place provided by David. Pride -> Consequences {turning point} -> Responsibility for sin -> Obedience -> Worship/ AWE
