    Series: (All)
Hell as seen at the Cross 1. Conscious Suffering “weeping and gnashing of teeth” 2. Darkness Matthew 27:45 From the sixth hour [noon] until the ninth hour [3 in the afternoon], darkness came over all the land” Matthew 11:20-24 Then Jesus began to denounce the towns in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent… Chorazin..Bethsaida..Capernaum, will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades. For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you. 3. Surrounded by Demonic Powers Col. 2:15 ..having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. 4. Bearing (the full weight of) our Sin 1Peter 2:24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree. 2 Cor. 5:21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us Isaiah 53:6 God laid on Jesus the iniquity of us all 5. Judgment Propitiation for sin -> The offering which appeases the wrath of one against whom an offense has been committed. God is Satisfied! Romans 3:25-26 God presented [publically] Christ as a sacrifice of atonement [propitiation], through the shedding of his blood–to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance (patience) he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished – he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus. 6. Separated from the presence of God & his love. 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9 He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might

Romans 5:10 For if, while we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! IV. Position Ambassador 2 Corinthians 5:18-21 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
